The Stolen Kiss

Josiah spent the night before the opening day of the Sun Festival in the infirmary watching a healer do their best. His wounds healed, but two distinct scars on his chest were left, they would never leave. He knew there was no going back now. Dietrich came back about 10 hours after he arrived, more battered than him.

The entire atmosphere changed when the Sun Festival arrived. Every inch of the town was decorated with ornate banners and accents that popped against the dull, gray stone background. Guards were everywhere, and more aggressive than Josiah's previous time at the castle.

Generis from all over the land populated the city, filling the castle. He didn't know all of the races of Generis, or lands they were from, but the abundant variety between the guests was enough for him to believe that each land their own distinct people. This was especially true when he saw Zander and the other Royals differentiate between races as they did their duties as members of the royal family.

The first three days of the festival were uneventful. The tournament didn't commence until the final four days, so Josiah was left to roam the town as he pleased. Darius and Auriela arrived for the festivities, but he hadn't had a chance to see them. Like the rest of the prominent figures, their schedules were packed with official duties.

To the rest of the Generis, the people he was around were considered celebrities. Crowds cheered when they were in sight. The power they had over the masses was incredible. Being from the earth realm made it all feel weird. The thought of bowing at the sight of a man in a crown seemed degrading. Nevertheless, people did it.

Josiah traveled out to the outlying lands of the town. The festival filled every inch of the city all the way to the stadium that sat on the town's border. Preliminary exhibitions and other junior tournaments were featured on the first day. The opening round of matches wouldn't be for two more days, and Josiah didn't fight until the second day of the tournament. Jacob told him many of the matches lasted for hours, sometimes days.

The King sat in his luxury box, in the massive stadium, most of the Festival. Darius and Auriela were usually found near him. Zander and Abel were nowhere to be found, they had been up and down the festival's strip more times than Josiah could count, relishing their celebrity. Abel found a thrill in his status. Zander seemed more honored to carry the burden of serving his people and was less concerned about the power that came with it.

Alexis stayed in the castle most of the time. Josiah would make his way back to the castle every chance he could to catch a glimpse of her. The two still hadn't had a proper conversation. The only exchange they had shared was when she demanded to know how he stopped her Telenese tricks.

When the opening ceremonies of the Tournament
